Following rain, the water rose overnight to a level which had not been seen on visits since June. Whilst far from exceptional there was a strong flow which was maintained all day and if anything increased. An element of colour was also continuously evident.
Members Steve Johnson, John Charles and Richard Stowe fished but no eligible results were returned. Certain good Trout caught were out of season. A small Grayling was undersize. A Chub escaped weighing by not reaching the landing net!
The occasion was nevertheless memorable for the environment. Beautiful rural surroundings in Autumn sunlight which proved the calm before the storm – Storm Austen no less, the following day.

The winning weight was a single Chub. The other participants caught any number of smaller fish but many were not eligible for the weigh-in under the prevailing six-inch rule.
Steve Johnson and John Stevens each caught seven appropriately sized Dace which respectively qualified towards the relevent trophy.

The larger weights were from coarse fishing. The wet fly was more responsive than the dry. Compensation water and an element of colour seriously discouraged the Grayling. Weather warm, overcast with sunny periods, breeze.
